A Couple from India to Marry on Metaverse

In what could be termed as an innovative concept of marriage, a soon-to-be-married couple in India has decided to tie the knot on metaverse. This particular idea of marrying each other in the virtual space has come from the groom Dinesh SP. Fortunately, the idea found favor with the bride Janaganandhini Ramaswamy as well. It is indeed like a breath of fresh air and seems logical given the rising cases of the Covid-19 pandemic in India.

As far as Indian traditions are concerned, marriages are very wholesome and lengthy affairs. There are a lot of activities and rituals that are part of the traditional marriages and along with the guests and relatives, a large number of near and dear ones from both bride and groom families are involved in the ceremonies. However, it is equally true that surging number of infections has forced many state governments to put in place restrictions on total number of participants in various social events such as marriages, celebrations, and processions among others.

This particular marriage is scheduled on February 1st, 2022 on metaverse, and both bride and groom will sit in front of their systems and click a link to enter a virtual location. Online avatars of bride and groom will meet and greet their knowns who will log in from the different locations. The late father of the bride will preside over the entire virtual wedding event.

According to the leading newspapers in India, the groom Dinesh said that he was very enthusiastic about the notion of a metaverse wedding and his fiancée also gave her assent to go ahead with this novel concept of marriage. The actual event of the wedding will take place on the 6th February in the village Suvalingapuram.

In addition to signaling a broader change in the mindset of people about the use of technology, this particular marriage will inspire others to take similar kinds of steps for the safety and security of others. The use of metaverse is becoming more popular among the target audiences as it combines the principles of social media, augmented reality, blockchain technology, and virtual reality.

Metaverse can also be considered as a converging point for all these innovative processes and is helping the entire domain of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to gain wider acceptance among prospective users and adopters. In the past, too, we have witnessed many such marriages where couples have married using the technology as one of the key enablers, including the very first marriage on metaverse in the USA last year, although it happened on the same day and time of the actual marriage.
