A Hacker Group says, Pay Bitcoin Ransom or They Will Release 9/11 Papers

A hacking group named thedarkoverlord, which got popularity after releasing episodes of the popular TV series, Orange is the New Black, is in trouble.

This time the hacking group has claimed to have the confidential data related to the 9/11 attack in the US. The group has stated that it has stolen this confidential information on the World Trade Center in 2001, Motherboard said in its report.

The hacking group is threatening the government to disclose the data if the government does not pay the ransom demanded by the group. As per the post published on the new year’s evening on hacker group’s Twitter account, the group has stolen thousands of documents from insurance firms such as Lloyd’s of London, and Hiscox Syndicates.

The group claims that this data would give answers to the number of questions and conspiracy theories related to the 9/11 attack. The theDarkOverlord goes ahead and warns to publish the content of the stolen files if their demands are not met in time.

A spokesperson for the Hiscox Group, an insurance company listed on the London Stock Exchange, confirmed this threat and hack. He stated that the hackers had successfully accessed the confidential data and files of the Hiscox Group’s law advising firm. There are strong possibilities that the hacking group had gotten the files concerning the terrorist attack of 9/11.

He continued saying that the law firm’s internet and security systems are not integrated with Hiscox’s IT structure. The hackers did not try to attack Hiscox’s systems.

The spokesperson said that the insurance company was handling a case of one person in relation to the 9/11 attack. This information was stored with the law firm. The attackers probably have succeeded in reaching data and files concerning that case.

In its post, the group has mentioned letters and email correspondence online, having a mention of multiple reputed law firms, the FAA and the other public bodies. The post also has a link to the archived file having the content the group claims to have stolen. This link is not decrypted, but the group warns to shares the password on the site if ransom fails to reach them. They are expecting the ransom in Bitcoins.
