Are dog-themed coins still a thing in 2023, or were Dogecoin and Shiba Inu the last of their breed?

Countless digital currencies have emerged, but few have captured the attention and imagination of the masses, like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. These dog-themed cryptocurrencies gained immense popularity with their unique branding and community-driven approach. However, as we step into the last half of 2023, it begs the question of whether dog-themed coins are still a thing, or were Dogecoin and Shiba Inu the last breed?

Is Dogecoin dead?

Dogecoin joked its way to stardom in 2013, riding on a popular dog-themed internet meme. At its core was hype from the social media community and driven by equally crazy influencers, the likes of Elon Musk, who tweeted away and convinced investors. Dogecoin reached its peak in 2021, and since then, it has never recovered. Investors are forgiven for thinking it’s dead due to its dormant state and lack of intrinsic value.

Furthermore, Dogecoin’s technology is a copy-paste of the existing blockchains without any improvement, making it just a passing cloud with no real value. Dogecoin is still available for trading and is struggling to find a footing after the 2022 crash. Elon Musk’s recovery attempts by inexplicably replacing Twitter’s logo with a DOGE have fallen flat as the value rise on that day was down the following day.

Is Shiba Inu dead?

Shiba Inu is not dead and actively fights for survival with its predecessor, Dogecoin. Like Dogecoin, it relies on hype and the Elon Factor for survival. Shiba Inu came as a “Dogecoin killer” and introduced more use cases. Its Shibarium network is under Beta testing, and if successful, it will add use cases to its portfolio. SHIB still makes the top 50, but its huge coin supply may not justify its price recovery.

Wrap up

Dogecoin and Shiba Inu’s enthusiasts may have seen the last dog-themed meme coins. The hype fizzled out long before some DOGE investors started suing Musk for influencing them to buy into a coin with no real utility. Meanwhile, AI Crypto is the new trend, and Avorak AI is living up to its expectations.
