The Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economy envisions that various products that utilize technology, such as Crypto Assets, NFT, and Metaverse, have received tremendous attention from the public as investment instruments. 

The Minister Pak Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno says, “Blockchain in the future must be an opportunity that is not only enjoyed by the upper-middle-class economy but also has to provide various benefits for the grassroots, especially the tourism and creative economy businessman in Indonesia. We are also pursuing the target that President Joko Widodo has set in the Digital Transformation target that has been determined, which is to create 9 Million Digital Talents in 2035 and 30 Million MSMEs onboarding by 2024.”

Crypto Trading Fuels Economic Growth

According to the Ministry of Trade, from 2020 to 2021, there has been an exponential growth in crypto assets’ transaction value, with more than a tenfold increase in one year alone. The value of crypto asset transactions increased from IDR 64.9 trillion (approximately USD 4.36 billion) in 2020 to IDR 859.4 trillion (approximately USD 57.74 billion) in 2021

Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Trade, Dr. Jerry Sambuaga, who is bullish on crypto, says, “In Indonesia, crypto assets are considered investment tools which are classified as commodities that can be traded on the Commodity Futures Exchange. There are various benefits to boosting the crypto industry, such as increasing domestic investment and preventing capital outflows and will provide protection for consumers and create business certainty. Going forward, we hope to sell and trade crypto assets as basic commodities as well as investment products.

Excellent Regulation for Market Stability

Indodax, Indonesia’s leading exchange, reported reaching 5,4 million members now, a more than a 100% increase compared to 2021. Oscar Darmawan, founder & CEO of INDODAX, says, “Legalizing a crypto asset in Indonesia is a long journey and is still not fully accomplished, but it is progressing smoothly and showing on a good track.
