Bitcoin Cash Developer Anthony Zeger Decides to Leave Bitcoin Unlimited

Bitcoin Cash developer and an early flag bearer of Bitcoin Unlimited (BU) project, Anthony Zegers, decided that he would no longer like to be a member of Bitcoin Unlimited. He announced his decision to leave the community via a blog post. The reason, he explained, is Bitcoin Unlimited’s proximity with the Bitcoin SV community and an apparent lack of response from Bitcoin Unlimited and Bitcoin Cash SV teams with regards to the lawsuit filed against many members of the Bitcoin Cash community.

“As a whole, I feel that Bitcoin Unlimited has been ineffective at countering BSV. I don’t want to associate myself with BSV in any way, and because of this I feel that I must separate myself from Bitcoin Unlimited,” he wrote.

The lawsuit, Zegers is referring to, was filed by United American Corp (United Corp) in December last year against Roger Ver, Bitmain, Kraken and developers of the Bitcoin Cash project including Amaury Séchet, Jason Cox, and Shammah Chancellor. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants collectively engaged in unfair methods of competition and through a series of sneaky, deceptive and unfair practices, manipulated the Bitcoin Cash network for their benefit and to the detriment of United Corp and other Bitcoin Cash stakeholders. According to the lawsuit the defendants hijacked the Bitcoin Cash network by engaging in a process called “rented hashing.” Rented hashing is the process of artificially and temporarily redirecting computing power in a bid to gain absolute control of a network. The system is against the ethos and principles of decentralization and blockchain technology.

Zegers says that targeting these people with the force of law in this manner is despicable worthy of condemnation. “While the parties responsible for this aggression seem to be shrouded in mystery, they represent a part of the BSV community. At a minimum, I think it’s fair to say that the BSV community has not taken a strong stand condemning the lawsuit,” he said.

Another developer of Bitcoin Unlimited, Andrew Stone, also feels that the lawsuit is frivolous and is an intimidation technique.

“I personally believe that the lawsuit is entirely inappropriate, is intended as an intimidation technique, and I call on whoever is behind it to stop. If you don’t stop out of decency, then do so for the good of the BSV coin, since I believe your behavior will push away developers and investors,” he was quoted as saying.

Zeger, however, is planning to focus on making Bitcoin Cash the best money the world has ever seen and hopes to work with individuals from Bitcoin Unlimited who share that goal.
