BitTorrent Acquires DLive for a New BitTorrent X Ecosystem

TRON CEO & Co-Founder Justin Sun announced that BitTorrent, a part of the TRON ecosystem, has acquired the blockchain-powered video streaming platform DLive. In a Twitter thread, Justin said that they are planning to migrate all BitTorrent services to a unified ecosystem called BitTorrent X, which shall be powered by BTT.

BitTorrent is a decentralized file-sharing software network that was acquired by TRON a couple of years ago. Since BitTorrent has gone under a thorough overhaul under Tron Foundation and Justin Sun. Further in the thread, Sun added that BitTorrent X would mark the platform’s transformation into a conglomerate of decentralized storage and content distribution networks.

DLive is one of the leading live video streaming applications based on blockchain. Originally built on the SEEM blockchain, DLive migrated to the TRON network earlier this year. In April 2020, DLive had introduced BTT staking on its platform to enable incentives for the community, a couple of months after BitTorrent began live DLive streams in its application.

BitTorrent X will be a platform for next-gen decentralized storage infrastructure and data protocols. Sun also informed that the BTFS and the live streaming network would be unified under the new platform for building a decentralized internet. All of these efforts are being made to make blockchain accessible to a larger audience, and further details regarding the new platform will be shared in a live event that will be streamed on DLive in November.
