BlockchainWeekend NYC: Blockchain Ecosystem Opens Doors to Everyone This November

New York City has been at the forefront of the global tech community. The continued growth and deepening of the tech and startup ecosystem in New York, now makes New York City one of the top startup economies in the world. With thousands of startups in NYC, it is now the second-biggest tech ecosystem in the USA and a global model for both private sector innovation and public/private partnerships.

As expected, New York City also leads the nation in the blockchain field. In fact, New York City has established itself as a fertile ground for blockchain and distributed ledger companies. When Bitcoin Center, located in NYC’s financial district, was established in 2013, it was ahead of its time and was the first business to physical exchange for bitcoin.

Subsequent community lead projects promoting blockchain technology followed, including BlockchainWeek, launched in May 2018. In January of 2019, with initial funding from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the NYC Blockchain Center was launched. Early on, NYCEDC saw the potential for blockchain companies to be an economic driver for New York’s economy and as another way to diversify the business environment in NYC.

“We are excited to see collaborative, community-driven initiatives like BlockchainWeekend NYC that are helping grow New York City’s blockchain community,” said NYCEDC Chief Strategy Officer Ana Ariño, “BlockchainWeekend is a first-of-its-kind event that aims to provide vital resources and connections to residents across the 5 boroughs, from the blockchain curious to blockchain professionals, giving everyone an opportunity to participate in the development and growth of this technology.”

Blockchain Weekend NYC At a Glance,

BlockchainWeekend continues the tech community support for blockchain and distributed technology in New York City, but rather than staging a centrally controlled event or conference, BCW encourages diverse community involvement. It has put out a call for blockchain companies, city-wide, to host events over the weekend from Thursday, November 7, through Sunday, November 10. BCW encourages a broader range of New Yorkers to learn about and start engaging with the blockchain community.

There are currently more than 30 events scheduled that are accessible to a variety of individuals, from blockchain beginners to industry experts. These events are diverse in structure and content, but all focus on the current and upcoming blockchain initiatives in the City. This collaborative, community-driven, multi-day event represents the next stage in the evolution of the NYC tech ecosystem.

The NYC tech community envisions BlockchainWeekend NYC as a catalyst for further exploration, sparking conversations, and a rededication to working on blockchain solutions that improve the lives of New Yorkers and the broader community.
