Brazil Launches Flagship Solution to Create Blockchain-based Birth Certificates

Brazil, the fifth largest country in the world, created a lot of buzz by exploring the merits of blockchain technology in a completely new domain of birth certificate issuance.

The country issued the first-ever birth certificate using the blockchain network of a child named Álvaro de Medeiros Mendonça who proudly got his birth certificate recorded with blockchain platform without bearing the pain of completing the registry office scrutiny.

The innovative step of inducing decentralized system in creating blockchain-based birth certificates was a joint effort of technology giant IBM and tech firm, Growth Tech.

Modern Blockchain Technology to Replace Cumbersome Registration Process

According to the latest news, Álvaro’s parents were invited by the hospital to become a part of the venture project outlined by IBM and Growth Tech. Waldyr Mendonça Junior, the father of Álvaro, found this new pedagogy of recording birth certificates convenient and time-saving as it took him less than five minutes in the entire process.

Growth tech’s Notary Ledgers platform provides virtual notary services and acts as the driving force in executing the registration process.

As per the statement of IBM’s blockchain chief in Latin America, Carlos Rischioto, the process of birth registration through the blockchain platform constitutes of three easy processes. He feels that the blockchain network will wither away the bureaucratic hindrances, which often pop up during the birth registration process, making the entire chain of events more transparent and efficient.

The three steps involved in the process include:

  • The first step or the ‘Live Birth Statement’ is issued to the family by the hospital.
  • In the second phase of the process, the parents of the child have to create a digital identity on the ledger platform.
  • The third and the last step involve the sending of the relevant information to the notary office that finalizes the birth certificate.

Hugo Pierre, the spearhead of Growth Tech firm, stated that the venture aims to provide a relevant solution for creating birth certificates that are efficient and secure.

Blockchain Technology Finds Its Relevance in Medical Data Management

The excellence of the blockchain network has made it quite popular in the field of medical data storage and management. Earlier in April, a South Korean hospital, Gil Medical Center, collaborated with blockchain medical data firm, Longenesis and Insilico Medicine, a biotech company, to come up with a health data management system focused on blockchain.

The blockchain network will help the hospital in uploading, storing, and managing the private information of the patients’. The patients will have full access and control over the data.
