Coffee production is a very long and complex procedure which involves many middlemen in it. The process includes varied stages like farming, roasting etc. The long and complex process puts Coffee farmers and producing economies at the short end of the stick. Now, the use of blockchain technology is expected to bring changes and advancement in the circumstances. The motive is also to have transparency in the process. With a similar intention, Moyee Coffee, a coffee brand is going to use blockchain for its system. The firm already operates a pilot blockchain coffee project in Ethiopia with collaborators like pioneersbext360 and theFairChain Foundation for better transparency. The firm is ready to establish the world’s first blockchain coffee project looking at the potential benefits of the blockchain.

The firm runs a roastery with Nearly 40 Ethiopians in Ethiopia’s capital which exports Arabica beans to Europe. Moyee Coffee claims that even though 100% of all coffee is grown in ‘coffee belt’ countries, most of the coffee gets roasted in the west. It says that only 2% of the added value of every cup of coffee reaches to the pockets of coffee producers.

Moyee Coffee will be leading the coffee industry to a more transparent and fair supply chain with the help of blockchain. The new blockchain deployed platform of Moyee will allow users to tip farmers, or fund projects like a new planting program, using a mobile app.

Moyee’s blog states that the blockchain project with bext360 has been developing since November. Moyee, which holds the slogan ‘radically good coffee’ will soon be fully blockchain-traceable. The blockchain platform will provide access to all stakeholders — farmers, roasters, and consumers to the data of the supply chain. This will let you know the complete analysis of the supply chain.
