Governance Service and Data Privacy Firm BlueTalon Acquired by Microsoft

In this day and age, data privacy is one of the most important pillars of any tech business. Considering the sort of data breaches that have happened throughout the past few years, it is only natural that tech giant Microsoft is doing everything in its power to further enhances its data privacy framework. In a new development, Microsoft has acquired the governance service and data privacy firm BlueTalon for an undisclosed fee.

The company is not only involved in providing data privacy solution but helps businesses in framing policies that will determine the level of data access that employees might have. Microsoft’s cloud business Azure is now involved in some of the biggest businesses in the world. If it has to continue to command their trust, then it has to ensure that data privacy is iron tight. Hence, it is not a surprise that BlueTalon is going to be integrated into the Data Management group and help Microsoft with its data privacy targets. In addition to managing access, BlueTalon is also involved in devising auditing policies and hence, it provides Microsoft with a company that is involved in almost every step of the data protection process.

The corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Azure Data, Rohan Kumar spoke about the acquisition. He said,

The IP and talent acquired through BlueTalon brings unique expertise at the apex of big data, security, and governance. This acquisition will enhance our ability to empower enterprises across industries to digitally transform while ensuring the right use of data with centralized data governance at scale through Azure.

The financial details of the deal have not been revealed by either BlueTalon or Microsoft. It is interesting to note that just before the company’s acquisition on Monday; BlueTalon had raised $27.4 million from its investors. Some of the investors include Stanford’s StartX Fund and Bloomberg Beta, among others. Irrespective of the financial details of the transaction, it is necessary to point out that it is a mutually beneficial deal for both the parties involved. Microsoft’s Azure is currently the main competitor of Amazon’s market-leading cloud service, Amazon Web Services.
