Duncan Garner, the radio host who hosts the program called The AM Show on the MagicTalkRadio in New Zealand, has declined of promoting BTC (Bitcoin) on Facebook.
As noted in the video, a local news outlet, on 26th
August 2019, Garner can be seen setting the record straight about his inclusion in the BTC promotions on Facebook. Garner has clarified that it was not him pumping up BTC on Facebook. Continuing further, Garner declared that he doesn’t do Bitcoin; in fact, he has nothing to do with any of such ‘coin.’ He also said that he has not been on the platform of Facebook ‘for a couple of years,’ indicating that someone else is promoting it in his name. However, people are telling him he’s pushing BTC so how it is going. “It’s not me,” Garner said straight.It seems a case of impersonation, which is not new in the world of cryptocurrency.
Bitmain, one of the leading cryptocurrency mining hardware manufacturers, had recently made accusations against a cryptocurrency product titled “Bitmain Cloud Miner” in August. Bitmain said that the product had stolen itsname for their own promotional purpose. As per Bitmain, the organizations behind the Cloud Miner product posed as Bitmain for promoting their product offerings, including MNG (Mangocoin) token as well as a miner.
The UK FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) has also dealt with impersonation incidents wherein the criminals promote the crypto assets by impersonating the regulator. The possible fraudsters sent scam emails to people using the UK regulator’s branding and logo with a title of “Guaranteed chance to earn.” To spread awareness, the FCA on its part has clarified that it doesn’t have any association with such email campaign, suspecting the scam act as an organized fraud.
In another such recent instance, Thailand SEC had to warn the public about a fresh crypto scam where the scammers posed as legal cryptocurrency traders operating from overseas. The scam companies lured people into making crypto investments through their online portals.
