Opera Browser Adds Support For Bitcoin And TRON, Will Allow Trading On Built-in App

Popular mobile browser Opera has added support for Bitcoin and Tron on its Android app. It will now enable Bitcoin (BTC) and Tron (TRX) trading on its built-in crypto wallet app, in the beta version on the Android platform.

In its official announcement, Opera stated that prior to the latest additions, its built-in crypto wallet supported only Ethereum and ERC tokens. Adding support for BTC and TRX will make the app more inclusive, and Web 3 ready, establishing it as the new standard for mobile browsers, it added. The company further said,

Most importantly, we are including an experimental integration of Web 3, which makes it possible for websites to request and receive addresses and for users to make transactions with Bitcoin.

Introduction of Bitcoin on Opera will allow users to use BTC token for engaging in Web 3 transactions. The move will enable sending, receiving, and storing BTC and TRX on Opera’s wallet, while also giving users access to their transaction history. The move to add Bitcoin and Tron networks to the ecosystem is in line with the company’s plans to make Web 3 highly accessible and easy to use for its users spread across the world.

Opera introduced its browser-based crypto wallet in December 2018, making it the first major browser to launch native crypto wallets, and Web 3 explorer. The new wallet lets people transact and interact with the next gen blockchain based internet, popularly known as Web 3. The same functionality was introduced in PC and iOS browsers in April and June 2019 respectively. The best thing about Opera’s crypto wallet is that it doesn’t require any third-party browser extensions or wallet apps.

For using their BTC and TRX on the vast Opera ecosystem, users need devices with Android Marshmallow or higher. The Opera mobile browser can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
