Tamil Nadu to Present Policies Focused on Blockchain and AI Ethics
The southernmost territory of the Indian subcontinent, Tamil Nadu, is gearing up to frame out a state-level policy for two globally evolving and celebrated new-age technologies, including blockchain and Artificial Intelligence that are distorting public policy and governance. The officials have revealed that the policy is likely to be released in a timeframe of eight to ten days as the necessary approvals are achieved from the authorities.
Santosh Misra, who works as the CEO of TN e-Governance Agency (TNeGA), stated that
We are working on separate policies on blockchain and AI. The AI policy is going to be perhaps the world’s first policy addressing safe and ethical use of AI.
Though Tamil Nadu’s governance policy for blockchain and AI is a first of its kind, some time back in the current year, the Telangana government unveiled a draft Blockchain Policy for the territory to encourage blockchain entities to kickstart operations in the state.
Mr. Misra broadcasted the news about the forthcoming policy of the Tamil Nadu government while addressing the audience at the launch of CII Connect 2019. The event serves as a premier conference that brings together the genius brains of the Information and Communication Technology arena. The meet is slated to be organized on November 7-8 in Chennai. The conference will be graced by the state’s ICT policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, academicians, and leaders.
As per the reports, Tamil Nadu has focused its AI and blockchain policies to outline the measures which will guide the government in aiding the development of the two fast-evolving technologies primarily for service dispatch and resolution of governance problems.
The honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami, recently broadcasted the news about a blockchain-oriented solution curated by the TNeGA focused on giving efficient e-service delivery to the natives of the state. The revolutionary solution will offer a predictive mechanism for the government service dispatch to the citizens. It will also help in the issuance of various identity certificates to the citizens without having the need for them to apply for it.
The state recently gained success in employing the expertise of the AI technology in fostering an efficient attendance system in two corporation schools. He quoted that
We are now likely to roll it out state-wide. It saves close to 45 minutes every day in the attendance process.
Mr. Misra further stated that the government policy would help the state in tackling the issues which AI applications can lead to when safety measures and ethics are neglected by the operating body.
