Coinbase has completed its integration of crypto derivatives platform Deribit, creating what it calls Coinbase Global Exchange and setting the stage for a broader trading platform. The company said on October 7 that Coinbase Financial Markets will connect eligible U.S. customers with international crypto derivatives liquidity through a single regulated structure. Coinbase also said options trading, spot margin and unified portfolios will begin rolling out in the coming weeks, while Coinbase Pro is scheduled to return at the end of 2026. The announcement follows the completion of the Deribit integration on October 1 and builds on Coinbase’s earlier efforts to combine spot, futures and derivatives services across its platforms.
Coinbase Completes Deribit Integration And Plans Options Rollout
Coinbase said its integration with Deribit is now complete, creating Coinbase Global Exchange and combining infrastructure around spot and derivatives trading. According to the company’s announcement, Deribit had more than $30 billion in Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30 and processed more than $1 trillion in trading volume during the previous year.
The company said the combined setup will allow Coinbase Financial Markets to connect U.S. and international crypto derivatives liquidity through a regulated framework. The development follows guidance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in May that Coinbase said allows its U.S.-regulated futures commission merchant to connect eligible U.S. customers to global crypto derivatives markets.
Coinbase outlined the development across a series of posts on X, including its announcement and subsequent updates detailing the platform changes. The integration also brings several product changes. Coinbase said Deribit-powered options, spot margin and unified portfolios are scheduled to roll out in the coming weeks. Options will initially be available to eligible traders outside the U.S., while U.S. retail access is expected later this year. U.S. institutional clients are expected to receive access through Coinbase Prime.
Coinbase’s Help Center documentation says its global derivatives products are subject to regional eligibility requirements. The company also provides information on how eligible customers can access its derivatives products through supported Coinbase platforms. The company has also introduced a new matching engine and updated fee tiers for Coinbase Advanced. The new fee structure counts qualifying spot and derivatives activity, with lower tiers beginning at $10,000 in qualifying volume.
Coinbase Pro Set To Return With Broader Trading Access
Alongside the Deribit integration, Coinbase said Coinbase Pro will return at the end of 2026 as a dedicated platform for professional and high-volume traders. The company previously discontinued Coinbase Pro as it shifted advanced trading functions into Coinbase Advanced. Coinbase’s Help Center explains that Coinbase Pro was replaced by Coinbase Advanced as the company consolidated its advanced trading tools.
According to Coinbase, the returning platform will support spot, futures, perpetuals, options and equities. The company also said the rebuilt service will include updated execution tools and features aimed at traders using more complex strategies. The changes are part of Coinbase’s broader effort to bring more trading products together across its services. In its latest Coinbase announcement, the company said its goal is to provide access to spot, futures, perpetuals, options and other markets through a more connected trading experience.
Coinbase also said eligible users will be able to use spot margin, allowing them to borrow against collateral for spot trading, with leverage of up to 10 times on selected major assets and up to five times on other supported assets.
However, availability will vary by location and account eligibility. Coinbase’s global derivatives documentation states that derivatives services are subject to regional requirements, while U.S. derivatives are provided through Coinbase Financial Markets. The company also warns that derivatives trading carries significant risk, including the possibility of losses exceeding funds deposited. The return of Coinbase Pro therefore represents another stage in Coinbase’s expansion of its trading products, while the completed Deribit integration provides the infrastructure for its planned derivatives and options rollout.
