Apple’s Icon Set Now Features Bitcoin Symbol

There is no denying of the fact that digital currencies are garnering widespread adoption across the world – whether it is as investments or as a tool to avail everyday goods or services. So as people are showing a keen interest in crypto, the tech giant Apple seems to do the same.

According to the latest reports, Apple has added the symbol of the numero uno cryptocurrency Bitcoin in its icon set update. The company has quietly included 4 logos of Bitcoin ‘₿’ – 2 are square, and two are circular in design. The update was brought into light by a Twitter user who noticed the presence of ‘₿’ icon in the new icon set on 4th June 2019. The user further made a confirmation saying that the bitcoin icon was available on all the applications on a range of iOS devices.

The addition of Bitcoin symbols comes as a part of an update to the company’s SF Symbols that provides Apple app developers with symbols they can use. Now that BTC logos have marked their place in the icon set, developers would easily be able to integrate BTC icons into a variety of applications that they build.

In the midst of this update, it was also learned that Apple had launched CryptoKit for its iOS 13 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. However, the CryptoKit has nothing do with cryptocurrency; it represents cryptography. It will allow Apple developers to securely and efficiently perform cryptographic operations of the apps.

We must note here that Apple is not the first one to have included the dedicated symbol for bitcoin. It was Microsoft that took the lead in this direction in the previous month by adding bitcoin symbol in its popular offering Excel. Excel now enables users to insert bitcoin symbol in the accounting records, similar to how they would include the other currency signs.

With Apple, including bitcoin sign, it comes as an acknowledgment of the growing acceptance bitcoin is experiencing consistently. This move will help spread the word tremendously on a global level.
