Avalanche and ZkSync’s Discord Compromised After Polygon’s Breach

Avalanche and Zksync’s Discord compromised after Polygon’s breach

Layer-1 blockchain network Avalanche and layer-2 blockchain ZkSync’s official Discord servers were compromised hours after Polygon Discord was breached.

Avalanche posted screenshots on X that showed how its Discord server had been compromised and requested users to avoid interaction or clicking on any links. In the screenshots, the attackers posted several links to dupe “distribution” schemes for Avalanche’s native AVAX token and also lured them by asserting that holders and community members could claim free AVAX. While Avalanche addresses security concerns, Polygon is focusing on a potential price surge for MATIC amid market volatility.

Ben Well, the Community Lead at Avalanche revealed that the team had discovered the issue and resolved it and is also working to restore the server to normal.

An hour later to this episode, the official Discord of the ZkSync was also reportedly attacked.

Similar to the above instance, hackers yet again shared links directed to a fake “round 2 airdrop” scheme, promising users free ZK tokens. These incidents came 48 hours after Polygon’s Discord faced a similar attack, in which a user, ValidatorK, reportedly lost $150,000 worth of ETH.

Mudit Gupta, Polygon’s Chief Information Security, confirmed the attack and requested users to avoid clicking on any links shared within the Discord channel till the situation is back to normal.  Malicious agents have become a menace on several network’s Discover server. These agents carry out phishing scams using fake links and websites, famous instances of these scams are CertiK and Gnus.AI’s past security breach.
