New Phishing Method Target iCloud Accounts of Crypto Investors

The Chief Information Security Officer of SlowMist, has posted on his X account, @im23pds, about a new phishing method targeting the iCloud accounts of cryptocurrency investors.

im23pds posted that people must beware of this new phishing method that attacks the iCloud accounts of cryptocurrency practitioners. He added, “We have just received attack intelligence against cryptocurrency practitioners. Phishers use the pretext of “There is an error with your iPhone ID. Please go to appIe[.]xxx[.]com before August 30 to enable two-factor authentication. If you delay, it will be disabled!” to deceive users into iCloud accounts, and then restore accounts or keys to steal users’ assets.”

Scammers, thus, forge urgency and fear mongering through iphoneID to lure users into clicking on suspicious links, and hack them. Phishing scams are a social engineering attack that continue to pervade the crypto industry.

It typically is conducted by attackers masquerading as a trusted entity, dupe a victim into opening an email, instant message, or text message. 11 phishing attacks have caused investors to lose a total of $57 million in August alone. Recently, Hamster Kombat users, too, had fallen prey to phishing attacks and fake airdrops. These scammers were trying to profit from the tap-to-earn game’s viral popularity.
